You have been put in charge of the company holiday party this year, so you will need to hire entertainment for the event. You search for DJ’s, and guess what? There are about ten thousand of them! Now what are you going to do? How do you even know where to begin? How do you find the Best DJ For The Party?
Well, thankfully we are here to give you some pointers.
First of all, the companies that you are interested in should have a place on the web where you can listen to their sample mixes. This should weed out a majority of the candidates, because you can choose the style and overall vibe of the music that you like.
Once you have narrowed it down to about six or seven candidates, you should have a quick meeting with each one. A 30 minute meeting should do the trick. Before the meeting, they should send you a needs analysis….and you only thought your company used those.
A needs analysis will allow you to offer some information, so the DJ company can get a feel of the theme and the tone of the party. There should be a page where you can offer a few requests. Please do not write 50-100 songs on the sheet, after all you are hiring the DJ, not playing an iPod. Ask a few people of different age groups to suggest three songs each. A good DJ should be able to look at it and immediately construct an outline of what will be played. Outline is key, because you will never really know what the crowd will like until you arrive at the venue and start playing.
At the very least, the prospective DJ can tell you what type of music will be played during dinner and cocktails. A word of advice: I know the Rat Pack style of music sounds classy on the surface, but there still should be other types of music mixed together.
So for a cocktail hour, the DJ can play a set like this:
- It Had To Be You – Frank Sinatra or Michael Buble
- Bailamos – Enrique Iglesias
- Sorry – Justin Bieber
- La Isla Bonita – Madonna
- Let’s Stay Together – Michael McDonald
- Ain’t Nobody – Chaka Khan
- Oh What A Night – Frankie Valli & Four Seasons
- Suit N Tie – Justin Timberlake
See how we have a little something for everyone? The DJ can use this formula for about an hour, mixing and matching songs depending on how the crowd reacts to the music. They can then transition into the party when everyone is ready to dance.
If the DJ can’t immediately come up with a playlist within a mater of minutes, then it is time to move on to the next candidate. If you want to know more on how to choose the Best DJ For The Party, contact us today, and we will sit down with you to discuss your private event.
